There's No Time to Waste

The older I get, the more acutely aware I am of the value of the hours in my day.

ree

I'm less tolerant of things that take up too much of my time.

Like necklaces with too-tiny clasps that take forever to connect.

Or watching boring movies.

Or shopping for new clothes when I have a full closet at home.

Or fixing things myself around the house.

In that last case, most of the time, I'd rather pay someone to do it for me.

If it's worth it, of course.

When I'm faced with that decision, I pause and calculate.

Are the hours I would spend doing this worth more than the price I would have to pay?

The math is interesting.

Sometimes it's based on the dollars per hour I earn at work.

And sometimes it's based on the opportunity cost of doing something else that's far more valuable.

Like spending time with my boys or other people I love.

Or taking time for my personal growth and planning for the future.

Or resting my body and my brain after a long day.

Life has taught me that we undervalue the hours we spend resting and reflecting.

I was guilty of that for far too long in my life.

Viewing quiet, peaceful hours as a "waste" of my time.

Always driven to be filling them with something productive.

"There's no time to waste," I would tell myself if I sat on the couch for more than a few minutes or snoozed that extra time.

But in reality, I am the only one who can define what makes my time valuable.

Same goes for all of you reading this blog.

That's part of the beauty of life.

And the power we have with the choices we make.

We have the power to choose how we spend our time.

We have the power to deem it valuable or not.

So in the end, there truly is no time to waste.

Only time to spend in ways that we feel add the most value to this perfectly imperfect life.
