Being Original Never Gets Old

Saw this sign while we were walking in Galena last weekend.
It spoke to me.
Quotes like this often do, and they often become inspiration for my blog.
It made me think about how unique we all are.
Each one of us has different hopes and dreams, forging our own unique paths in life.
I think about all of the times when I was young where I worried so much about what other people thought.
Said and did things because I thought they were the things I was "supposed" to say or do.
Because I thought they were the things that would make others proud of me.
As I've gotten older, I've realized that the only person who needs to be proud of me is me.
I wish sometimes that people would realize that when they are young. That it wouldn't take 40 or 50 years to finally understand that we should embrace our uniqueness.
How much happier would we all be?
If we laughed at the ridiculous, little funny moments that happen every day.
If we danced to the music playing in the grocery store.
If we sang at the top of our lungs in the car with the windows wide open.
If we tried all the weird foods and talked about our strange habits without feeling embarrassed.
If we were original, all the time.
I think we would all laugh a little more.
Feel a little more free, and maybe just a tiny bit more peaceful in our own skin.
I thought about that a couple nights ago at a concert with a good friend, as we laughed until we cried trying to take selfies (and failing miserably) in our seats.
I didn't care if the people behind us were rolling their eyes at us. I didn't even turn to look.
We just kept on being our original selves.
Because being original really never does get old.
You should try it.
