The Difference Maker

I received a fun, promotional gift this holiday season that reminded me of something really important in life.
Shortly after my divorce in 2012, I stumbled upon a book by John Maxwell, called "The Difference Maker."
It's an easy read, and much of it is what I would consider common sense.
Things we should already know and just instinctively be doing.
But as most of us have learned through the course of our lives, some of the simplest habits are the hardest to implement.
The whole concept of the book is that your attitude makes all the difference.
It's the "Difference Maker."
That's what this entire blog is about too - how our choices and the way we approach challenges in life define our paths and how happy we are.
After reading that book, I started implementing a daily practice of sharing a positive thought on social media.
Searching for something to post and reading people's responses was another way to lift my spirits and help me see the good things in life.
It literally rewired my brain. In such a good way.
I know there are skeptics out there, people who read my posts and scoff and roll their eyes.
And that's okay.
But I ask you - what's the harm in trying?
What if, instead of dwelling on the negative, we chose to look a little harder for the good in everything?
What if, instead of seeing only the worst possible outcomes, we chose to see the opportunities?
What if, instead of asking ourselves why the bad stuff is happening, we chose to ask ourselves what we can learn from the challenge?
When life throws obstacles at us, we have to get through them one way or another. They don't just go away on their own.
Why not stay positive on the journey?
Our attitudes are fully in our control.
And they really do make all the difference.
