See the Good in All Things

I had a birthday a few weeks ago.

And my amazing boyfriend threw me the best surprise party ever, complete with all of my favorite things.

Including inspirational stickers!

I picked one out that spoke to me and stuck it to the jacket I was wearing that day.

"See the good in all things."

It was a perfect representation of how I think.

I rarely watch the news these days.

I've filtered out the people on social media who are always negative.

I don't have time to waste feeling angry or frustrated over issues that are out of my control.

I prefer to see the good in all things.

When I was younger, this wasn't always the case.

And yes, every once in awhile, when life is REALLY tough, I can still let it get to me.

But for the most part, I try to find the positive in every situation.

Some of this comes from experiencing 50 years of life and having been through a lot of struggle and a ton of change.

Along the way, I've learned that sometimes the wrong turns lead you to places you never would have gone.

And to some of the best times of your life!

So those of you who are young and reading this blog, there is hope!

With every roadblock you break through, every mountain that looks insurmountable until you get to the top, every hard time you survive, your perspective will shift.

You'll begin to realize that even the hard parts of life have moments that make you smile.

And those of you who are older - there's still time to shift your mindset.

Think about all of the years you've lived.

How many challenges life threw at you. Big ones and small ones.

You've found your way through every one of them.

Even if you've only seen the negative up until this point, it's not too late to change.

It just takes practice.

It's so much better to face a situation with a smile.

To look at it objectively and not dwell on the things you can't control.

To find the good.

Try it for a week. Just 7 days.

For that one week, don't complain about anything that happens to you.

Not even the little stuff.

Find the beauty in the thunderstorm that thwarts your plans, or the traffic jam that makes you divert and take the scenic route home.

Take advantage of that canceled flight and spend one more night on vacation.

Laugh about the meal you were making that burned on the stove because you got distracted. And enjoy the time spent with your family at the local restaurant instead.

Be grateful for your life...even if it's not playing out the way you think you wanted it to.

I guarantee at the end of the week you will feel more at peace, more relaxed and happier overall.

And isn't that the best way to live?

Peaceful, relaxed and happy?

I think so.

See the good in all things, my friends.

There's so much of it!
