Recalculating

There are a lot of things I'm grateful for in life, but my GPS ranks really high on the list.
I often tell people that I wouldn't go nearly as many places if I didn't have it.
Which is true.
My sense of direction sometimes isn't very good. In fact, it's a running joke with family and friends that I often mix up which way is left and which is right.
I just laugh and tell them we'll go the "other left" then.
Anyway...
My favorite thing about my GPS is how it re-routes me if I miss a turn, or take the wrong exit.
Doesn't yell at me, doesn't judge me, just simply changes the path.
One way or another, I can always get to where I want to go.
This is how it should be in life too.
We can be going along on our merry way, taking the route we think is the best.
Then all of a sudden, there's construction or the road is closed or we start to daydream and miss our turn.
Our first tendency is to get frustrated.
Isn't it funny how quickly we offer ourselves criticism instead of the same patience our GPS gives us automatically?
Instead of worrying that we'll never get there, we just need to recalculate the next best route.
Take the turn a quarter mile ahead, loop around the ramp and get back on the freeway.
Eventually we will get there.
We might even end up having an unexpected adventure along the way that makes the trip that much more exciting.
The most important thing is to not panic when we get a little turned around.
To remember that there are hundreds of different routes we can take.
And to give ourselves grace along the way.
Let's all be more like our GPS.
Simple recalculate the route and keep moving.
Because missing a turn doesn't mean we are lost.
Sometimes it just means we're finding a different way to get to where we're meant to be.
