Piece by Piece

At the risk of sounding old this morning, I'll admit it...I've recently rekindled my love for doing puzzles.
When I was younger, it used to be one of my favorite things to do.
Before the internet, before the constant need for stimulation and immediate gratification.
There was the simple act of quietly putting pieces together.
The satisfaction of watching a picture form before my eyes.
Staying up later than I wanted to, because I wanted to fit in just "one more piece."
There's irony in that if you think about it.
How puzzles are a bit like life.
A box full of mixed-up pieces. Waiting for us to put together.
Some of us start with the edge pieces - wanting a solid outline to work from.
Others jump right into the middle, looking for collections of colors or shapes that seem to belong together.
And slowly, as the pieces start to fall into place, sections of the picture become clear.
A mountain.
A farmhouse.
Or in the case of my latest puzzle...a cat on a bookshelf.
Moments in our lives take shape that way. Because we've intentionally found and placed their pieces.
To me, that's one of the most exciting parts of life. And the premise of this blog.
In a world filled with uncertainty, there's still so much we can control - our attitude, the choices we make, and how we piece together our own unique puzzle.
It's not always easy.
Some days, it can feel like we can't find a single piece that fits.
But if we're patient.
And we sit in the quiet.
And we keep trying...
We can finish.
And when we get to that final puzzle piece - the one that makes the entire picture come into focus...
We realize it was all coming together.
Even when it didn't feel like it.
