Nowhere To Go but Up

I blog a lot about the paths we take in life.

And how our choices shape them.

Sometimes, though, choices are made for us. We have to go a certain direction due to forces outside our control.

But even when that happens, we do still have a choice.

We can choose how we react and whether we view the change positively or negatively.

My friends and I are hiking at Shenandoah National Park this week.

The trails are spectacular, but we're still on a mountain, so not necessarily easy.

There's so much to see that, at first, you almost don't realize that you're on an incline.

To get to the best views, though, there's nowhere to go but up. That choice is made for you.

Some of the inclines are easy, with steps carved out of wood for solid footing.

Others are a bit of a scramble, climbing up and over piles of rocks.

But every path takes you higher.

I think that's a good way to look at life too.

No matter what happens to us, there's nowhere to go but up.

To me, that doesn't mean climbing the corporate ladder, making tons of money, or gaining some sort of fancy status in life.

Up means continuing to grow and become the best versions of ourselves.

Up means pushing ourselves so we are always seeing the best possible view.

Up means staying positive and keeping it all in perspective.

Up means looking at the incline and saying "I can't wait to see what's up there!"

Even when our heart rate increases and our legs hurt.

Keep going.

Never stop climbing.

There's nowhere to go but up.

I'll meet you at the top!
