Neighbors

The house next door to us just went up for sale.

Anyone want to be my neighbor?

I've lived in quite a few neighborhoods in my lifetime.

And for the most part, been really lucky to have nice neighbors.

The ones I've gotten to know here have been amazing.

Quiet, friendly, helpful.

Couldn't ask for anything better honestly.

In fact, I still play Sheepshead almost every Tuesday night with two of them. You can read more about that in my blog post, "Cards and Pie."

I'm very curious to see who moves in next door.

Will it be a family with middle-school aged kids who go to the school right down the block?

Maybe they'll want to play hoops in my driveway, like my boys used to do.

Or maybe it will be a couple like us who are practically empty-nesters who might join us for a cocktail by the fire pit on crisp fall nights?

Who knows? The possibilities are endless.

There are 8 billion people in the world right now, and one of them will eventually buy the house next door and become my neighbor.

It sometimes blows my mind to think about all the people living their own unique lives, coexisting on this earth.

Each one writing their own story.

This strikes me most often when I am in an airplane, looking at the tiny houses from 30,000 feet in the air.

So many perspectives, so many challenges, so much life being lived.

We only see a tiny fraction of it in our little neighborhoods.

But I'm grateful for that.

For the neighborhood view of the world.

It's cozy and happy and comfortable.

A safe haven when life is tumultuous and scary.

What's your neighborhood like?

Do you have a cards and pie story?

I'd love to hear about it.

Here's to all of the great neighbors out there.

May we have them.

May we be them.
