Comforts of Home

ree

Have any of you ever noticed how tiny the coffee cups are in hotel rooms?

They just don't measure up. Literally.

I want a big cup of coffee in the morning.

So I always bring my own mug.

It's like a little bit of home that travels with me.

I spend a decent amount of time in hotel rooms during the year.

Three days a month for work, visits to lots of different places for track meets, stays at local hotels for concerts and events.

And thats not even counting real vacations!

It adds up to a lot of nights in hotel beds. And lots of hotel coffee!

It's funny how waking up to one familiar thing (and a cup of coffee to start the day!) makes each trip that much better.

It's also a great way to use my collection of coffee mugs.

I have one from everywhere I've traveled.

There's a blog about that too from a couple of years ago.

As much as I love traveling, I also love the comforts of home.

  • The tidy living room that greets me with my favorite pictures of our family

  • The spot on the couch where I sit and read or write or watch TV and wrap myself in warm blankets

  • My cat, who is currently snuggled up to me as I write this blog.

  • The view of my backyard from the patio table on a warm, summer day

  • And that collection of coffee mugs that takes up the entire top shelf of the cabinet next to the sink

Everything here is part of our story. Carried with us over the years.

There's a lot to be said about the comforts of home.

I love that bringing a mug with me serves two purposes.

One is to take the place of those ridiculously small coffee cups.

And the other?

The other is to remind me that, no matter how far away I go, there's always a home waiting for me.

With a cuddly cat, a cabinet full of coffee mugs, and a lifetime of memories inside.
