Thumb Holes and Zipper Pockets

ree

I don't have very many pictures of me in mid-flight.

But this one was fun.

We were exploring Seattle, taking the day to wander.

After making our way through Pioneer Square, past the stadium, and through the Van Gogh exhibit, we were finding fun little places to stop on our way back to our hotel.

We stumbled upon a fantastic little distillery off the beaten path (LetterPress Distilling).

The owner (Skip) was fascinating and I learned some new things about gin and that the word "amorino" means little love. The tasting was fantastic and the Limoncello was to die for!

A few blocks away from the distillery, there was art made from old DVD's hanging from the electric poles on both sides of an intersection.

For fun, I jumped up to try to reach it.

Amy snapped a pic of me in the air.

I wasn't very high up, but still...

What a cool pic, right?

And notice the thumb holes on my sweatshirt?

I've decided that every long-sleeve shirt I own should have thumb holes. I love how they keep my sleeves in line, give my hands just a bit of warmth, and add character.

A small, simple thing that can make a big difference.

Like zippered pockets - those are becoming a requirement too.

So helpful when you want to be free to explore and not have to carry a purse or worry about stuff falling out of your pockets.

The older I get, the more I'm realizing how important it is to remove the stuff that makes us worry. To find ways to be as carefree as possible.

I used to think I needed to carry so many things with me, just in case.

Not so much anymore.

I ask myself - what's the worst that would happen if I didn't have it? Could I get by without it? Am I going somewhere where I can replace it if I absolutely needed it?

It's very freeing.

And so much more fun to be able to leave the house/hotel with my sweatshirt on with the thumb holes and zipper pockets, running shoes on my feet, ready to explore.

No baggage to weigh me down.

Sure - there's a ton of life waiting for me when I get back. Decisions to make, work to catch up on, and kids to worry about.

I know that thumb holes and zipper pockets alone won't solve my problems.

But they sure make me smile.

And when we can find those things to smile about, when we take the time to live life simply and in ways we enjoy, it helps us power through the rest of it.

So in a way, thumb holes and zipper pockets are sort of like superpowers.

Now if only they would help me jump just a tiny bit higher...
