Skylines

I grew up in a small town. Never considered myself a city girl.

But I do appreciate a beautiful city skyline.
It reminds me of how much world there is out there to see.
The more I travel, the more I appreciate our big cities, too.
There are a couple that I love to visit and could get lost in on foot for days if I had the time and money.
To me, skylines are more than just buildings set against a backdrop of blue.
They represent an entire collection of ideas, and opinions and designs and viewpoints.
I think about the people who architected those buildings and wonder how long it took, what struggles they ran into, what they learned from the process.
I think about all of the things to do, and the amazing food to be tried within those city streets.
And I think about the journey each person is on who lives in that city.
I'm always humbled when I remember that there are nearly 5 billion other people on this earth that I have never met.
Who are living their lives in parallel to mine.
Not everyone likes to visit our big cities. There are pros and cons to spending time where the population is so dense.
I can appreciate that. Sometimes being around so many people is exhausting.
Sometimes it's easier to stay in our small town, where life is comfortable and things are familiar.
But even on the days when I feel like life is just a little too "people-y," a beautiful skyline can make me pause and smile.
And help me remember that I'm just one small piece of this big, beautiful world.
What's your favorite city?
