Obstructed Views

On my last visit up to our home office in Green Bay, I opened the blinds in my hotel room, hoping to have a view of the river and the trail that runs alongside it.

Nope.

Instead, I was greeted by a giant metal container - not exactly sure of it's purpose.

But it totally obstructed my view.

The parking lot wasn't particularly exciting to look at, but it still would have been nice to see clearly.

Our view of life is obstructed sometimes too.

We often struggle to see what's right in front of us.

Sometimes the obstacles are solid.

The pole in our way at the baseball game because we could only afford the cheap seats.

The bushes in front of our windows that need to be trimmed.

The tall guy in front of us at the concert.

Real, tangible things that get in our line of sight and make it hard to see.

But what about the obstacles that aren't quite so tangible?

Piles of baggage, misunderstandings, hurt feelings, perceived insurmountable barriers between us and the people around us.

Or worse, beliefs about our own abilities that hold us back and keep us from reaching our true potential in life.

Some of us build them up so high that we can go years not seeing clearly.

Those are the worst kinds of obstacles.

Because they are preventable; we have the power to see through them.

The longer we choose not to, the less time we have to live our best lives.

And the more time we spend staring at an obstructed view.

Think about the things in life that are currently obstructing your view.

How many of them could you remove just by making different choices?

Could you decide that they really aren't worth clouding your vision anymore?

The view is so much nicer when we remove the obstacles. The world is more exciting and our potential is limitless.

I think on my next trip, I'll make it a point to request a room with a better view.

So I can open the curtain and clearly see the beauty that's right in front of me.

Unobstructed.
