Life is a Lot Like This Cookie

ree

There's a place in Florida at Disney Springs that sells the most amazing cookies.

They weigh almost a half a pound and come in all sorts of amazing flavors.

When we were there last weekend, I got the one titled "Bride of Frankenstein."

A sugar cookie mixed with M&M's, golden Oreos and probably a thousand calories.

It was one of the most fabulous things I have ever eaten!

And, of course, it made me think about life.

How life is a lot like this cookie.

Crunchy on the outside. Bumpy in places.

A little salty. A little sweet.

Sometimes the proportion of salty and sweet fluctuates, so there can be days that are way too sweet or way too salty.

But when you break it open and look inside, what do you find?

A soft center, where the heart of it all lives.

You wouldn't know it by looking at it. It would be easy to assume that this cookie is crunchy all the way through.

But, like life, we shouldn't judge our cookies by their outsides.

It's also important to not eat too much at once.

We can make ourselves sick that way.

It's something to be savored a bite at a time, allowing time to sit back and enjoy the simple pleasure of it.

Easier said than done, I know.

Because the temptation to eat the whole thing at once is pretty strong.

But, also like life, the stomach ache that can come from doing too much is probably not worth it.

It really is a beautiful thing, this life we live.

With its hard and bumpy times, sweet and salty moments and the amazing love that exists at the heart of it all.

I hope you are all enjoying it.

One bite at a time.
