Hurry Up

I'm sitting here, on my couch, enjoying my second cup of coffee.
A blanket over my legs, still in my comfy bathrobe.
Been trying to come up with a good blog idea for the last hour or so.
My brain keeps interrupting my reflection, reminding me of all the things I need to do today, telling me to hurry up.
Hurry up.
That's been the directive repeated in my head for the last 48 years.
Hurry up and grow up so you can build a stable life.
Hurry up and get married because you've been dating for two years already!
Hurry up and have kids because you've been married for three.
Hurry up and get promoted, advance in your career, work those crazy hours.
Hurry up and make a name for yourself, make everyone proud.
And that was all well and good...for awhile.
But these days, I'd rather slow things down than hurry up.
Forget about the never-ending To Do List and the heavy work week ahead.
Enjoy my coffee and the sun shining through the slats in my patio blinds.
Tell my brain to shut the hell up so I can relax and reflect.
Reflect on all of the experiences in my life, from the amazing to the ordinary.
In what seems like the blink of an eye, I've gone from my 20's to my 40's and some days it feels like I missed most of it in the whirlwind.
So much life. But also so much hurrying.
That's partly why I write this blog.
As a way to force myself to slow down and reflect.
To take a few sacred hours a week to just be, to relax and think and share my thoughts with all of you.
To stop hurrying.
I encourage all of you to do the same.
Carve out time every week to reflect on the events of your life and what you've learned from them.
Think about all of the experiences and the people that you've shared them with.
Be grateful.
Slow down.
Life moves fast enough without us hurrying it along.
