Be Present

ree

I have this wonderful calendar on my dresser.

365 days of inspiration.

Some weeks are so busy, I forget to turn the pages.

The other day, I looked over at it and it was still on November 7th.

I flipped 20 pages forward to the current day.

And this is what I read: "I aim to pause, soak up the present, and be grounded in it."

How ironic that this is the current page after 20 days had flown by and I barely remembered them.

In this world of constant information, where we are consistently rushed and overstimulated, it's difficult to pause and really be present.

There are so many things to see and do - what fun is it to simply do none of them for a bit?

For those of us who grew up without social media, I think it's a little bit easier.

We remember the days (fondly) when life was simpler.

Slower.

More peaceful.

But our kids? They've been immersed in this most of their lives.

It's all they know.

The world would be so boring without a thousand different pieces of information coming at them at the same time.

And the reality is - neither way is wrong. They're just different.

Regardless of how we grew up - whether we are 15, 25 or 50 - I still think it's important to take time to just be.

Allow our brains to relax for a bit.

Slow our breathing.

Reflect on our lives and all that's good in them.

Especially this time of year.

Let the people around us be our social media feed.

Put our phones down, play games, laugh, and cheer and enjoy the precious memories we are making together.

And be present.

With ourselves and with each other.

Happy Holidays!
